FLU Vaccination

Regular flu immunization is recommended for the following:

1. 'High Risk'

  • All people aged 65 years and over
  • Anyone over 6 months of age with:
    • Chronic respiratory disease, for example asthma, emphysema, chronic bronchitis and cystic fibrosis
    • Chronic heart disease
    • Chronic kidney disease or anyone on dialysis
    • Diabetes
    • Those with a weakened immune system due to treatment or disease ·
  • Those living in long-stay residential care homes or other long-stay care facilities, where rapid spread is likely to follow introduction of infection

2. "Others at Risk"

  • Employees directly involved in patient care e.g. nursing home staff or a family member responsible for the care of patient in the 'high risk' group.
For people in the two 'at risk' groups above, the flu vaccine is available free of charge from the NHS.

For people in the 'High Risk' group only, your GPs practice will be sending you a letter in the post regarding your eligibility.

If you feel you fall into one of the categories detailed above or are unsure and require further advice, please contact you GP's surgery or Michie the Chemists Flu Clinic for further consultation.

3. Private Patients ·

  • People who wish to be immunized but who are not in the 'at risk' groups above e.g. private individuals, company and public service employees.
  • For this group, the cost of the flu vaccination will be £20.
  • Special clinics, direct billing and online booking are all additional services available to companies and organizations that wish to implement a staff immunization plan.
